Title: Intro to VoIP and Asterisk
Synopsis: Voice over IP is a flexible, featureful and cost friendly way to communicate and it's becoming engrained in businesses of all sizes. VoIP architectures allow endless combinations of protocols, configurations and off-the-shelf hardware. This give VoIP a steep learning curve. This presentation will outline VoIP protocols and hardware options from the ground up and describe their use. Typical configuration combinations will be described.

Asterisk is a free and open source VoIP solution that you can use today to provide a comprehensive business phone solution including automated attendant functionality, voice mail and a wide range of high-end telecommunication functions. John will cover a simple installation and configuration of Asterisk that might be suitable for a small office.

Bio: John Van Ostrand has been consulting in system solutions for almost 20 years and runs a local system integration and VAR practice. Asterisk has been a key piece of his company for 7 years now and he has been offering and supporting Asterisk solutions to businesses for 5 years
